☑ HOW'S MY DRIVING MEME
All of us have those moments where we are uncertain about our characterization. Sometimes feedback is the best medicine! So, step on up and post your roleplay accounts and the games you have them in. Let others come by and tell you how you're doing and let others know what you think! Give legitimate reasons and not just "I love you!" Save that for our monthly love memes.

Yeah, it's kind of a crapshoot at times. I've read like ten different versions of Bruce's last day with his parents, haha. Quality/editorial control didn't seem high on their priority list with some comics.
And oh! hey, curiously, do you have any recommendations for reading for Zatanna? I've never focused my reading on her but I love her character and I wouldn't mind having a more well-rounded view of her if it wouldn't be any trouble?
Hm. Reverse image search?

But don't you want to remember the Defining Moment of his life?! That wonderful moment where he decided he was going to become Batman! But yeah, editorial is really iffy these days and I shudder to think what goes on behind closed doors at DC now that we've gotten a peek at it from Perez and Rozum. They should just hire a bunch of fans to be the editors. Or, at least as fact-checkers. Let them do the dirty work and tell the writers and editorial that this isn't IC, the eye color isn't right, etc. etc. I'll do that for minimum wage, even!
I usually will say read everything because she is unfortunately that sort of character! She's always been known as DC's greatest minor character and most of her solos have been really iffy (in that they were used to facilitate self-insert boyfriends/love interests from the writers). I am not a huge fan of Dini's writing of her and find he focuses too much on quipping and banter and being a creepy sleazeball, but I did like his Detective Comics runs with her in addition to his 2001 Vertigo special (which I'd pirate because $25 for a prestige is steep unless you have an addiction like I do). Dini's solo title exists solely to make me angry and for icons :')
But yeah, most of her stuff is a lot of background or a few pages here and there up until maybe the past six years? She doesn't have a lot of lengthy appearances, but they all fit together nicely. What you get is like in Superman/Batman, but then she shuffles off again to do off-screen junk. I think a lot of the Identity Crisis tie-ins were worthwhile despite the subject it ties into. I'm a particular fan of Rucka's, since he basically entirely avoids the quipping. Morrison's Seven Soldiers is also an excellent starter and Sook's art is sort of in that in between phase here, where he's shifting from a more Mignola style to coming into his own (also the colorist was awful), but it's definitely worth a read. My favorite recent issue is Brave and the Bold v2 #33, featuring her and Diana and Babs. I ignore the last few pages and Oracle talk for obvious reasons. (I actually recommend almost the entirety of this series; somewhere around I think issue #12? That's when Perez goes off and is replaced with better artists. I think it has some really great mash-ups, my favorites being GL + Dr. Fate & Phantom Stranger + GL!)
Uhhh. Sorry for the TL;DRing. What I have on my computer is mostly for quick reference, since I own almost her entire canon and quick-pulls do tend to be like "these six pages in Justice League from 1998 were great!!" or whatever. I do recommend JLA overall, especially Bronze/Copper age. I don't talk about JLDetroit.
Oh. How... would I do... that...

Oh god, an army of fact-checking fans would be beautiful. Can I be in charge of Batfam stuff. (I joke about building a time machine and going back to re-write all the bad or OOC storylines from the ground up, whoops)
And yeah I've seen her mostly in Batman/JL stuff so I definitely get what you mean about her being backgroundy.
I'll check all these out. Thank you so much. <3

Yeah it would be amazing. Having a consistent Bruce would be great; I really loved how he was being written over the past say... ten years or so? That's one of the biggest tragedies of the reboot, I think. Although following his return he wasn't nearly as changed as I was hoping. He didn't have to move on to make me happy, just be less of... how when bad writers write him, I guess. (Gently pushes Didio off a cliff so he never calls Identity Crisis his favorite event again!)
Unfortunately that really is how it goes. Up until recently, she has had mostly very small, bit parts. I can name about fifteen issues off the top of my head where she appears for just a panel or two or three pages but is toted on the cover or in the summary as being a major part of it.
NP! I'm sorry I can't be of more help because it really is really short appearances that tend to be my favorites and they would probably disappoint most people. I really liked her Batman/Superman appearances, though, and the JLA tie-ins or... Action Comics? I can't remember. They were those ones where INSTEAD OF CONTINUING NEXT WEEK IN THE SAME TITLE, BUY THIS OTHER TITLE WHERE IT NORMALLY WOULD NOT AT ALL BE RELATED!! I think the issues with Bruce are particularly cute and it's really nice to see that side of both of them, as opposed to the over-dramatic BS where they have to flashback to THAT TIME SHE MINDWIPED HIM!!! Why is it in an issue of OMAC Project?? We don't know, either!!
I can give you the specific issue numbers for some favorites, but it might be a day or so. I don't have any long boxes so I have piles of comics just randomly scattered about my bookcases.
(Also, hi!! I'm Lucy!! Since I'm going to tl;dr at you, you might as well know who to tell to shut up!)

See my favourite Bruce is probably around the Knightfall era - Azrael Rising (I think that's what that arc was called) afterwards where Bruce actually found Azrael and apologized for being a tool/abandoning him after Knight's End/etc is one of my favourite moments for Bruce because he doesn't own up to the douchebaggery he pulls anywhere near often enough for my liking.
I loved her in the Superbat stuff negl. Then again I love (most of) the Superbat run in general because Clark and Bruce are my forever brotp. And eee that would be lovely you're fabulous. <33
(hi Lucy I'm Roy nice to meet you. <33)

i think a lot of eras have very similar moments, it's just that no one ever keeps up with it. i will never not recommend gotham county line for similar reason (+ hampton art and some of my favorite writing and the usual magic losers poppin' in...). idk if you've read it so i won't spoil, but i think it's really touching and i wish it was permacanon. :(
yes i think that while there was some weird stuff in that series, a lot of it was really solid (i love the movie issue where they're joking about the actors that are playing them sfm) and regarding zee, i really love the light-hearted banter with her and bruce. it was cute. while i don't actively ship it, i can't help but be pulled by adorable... but yeah slow slow sloowwwwwww. i work in retail, so it's just becoming Hell Time. :')
(sup i think you know sammo?? idk. it feels like we can probably do one degree of separation.)

Ahaha omg yes the world's finest in-canon movie. Adorable. And yes the banter is my fav, I love banter, it's definitely one of my favourite things in any medium and Bruce and Zee do it so well. /chinhands
And that I do! Sammo is an excellent person to know, negl. And also Hallie, who plays Damian over at CnC? :3

Man, I need to re-read it now. I really wish people would ICly bring up stuff like that, but it sometimes feels like a lot of people only read what their character is in. I think you have to read at least some of the main titles of the universe or skim them to really play them right. But yes, dat banter. JUST GONNA MAKE EVERYONE FEEL AWKWARD, GONNA FLIRT OVER THE COMMLINK WHOOPS.
Yes! Although we don't talk as much as we used to, but I fear that's due to my laziness -- er, less time online and lack of desire to mess around like I used to -- and inability to speak Marvel at all. She's a peach and probably the best Damian I ever done see.

I'm a relatively new acquisition to DC though, so it's... uphill both ways in the snow carrying a goat.
On that note - do you have a plurk? :3 If you're cool with adding Ye Olde Internet Strangers I would like to lob a request your way.

But at least there isn't new source material trying to kick you down at every rest stop. Which is awful to say because ~bitter~ about new 52, but hey.
I am over at typo central/shitty magic superhero teams,
